SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2020-21 Southern Conference Virtual Football Media Day took place Thursday. All nine league coaches and Commissioner Jim Schaus were on hand to meet the media and discuss the upcoming season.
 
Schaus and the coaches met with media for a live question-and-answer session hosted by Jason Patterson before joining Pete Yanity for one-on-one interviews that will air Friday on ESPN+ at 11 a.m.
 
All nine coaches expressed excitement to get back to action with their teams and fielded questions from the various local and national media members in attendance.
 
The preseason polls and all-conference teams were released Wednesday, with Wofford picked by the coaches to win the league and Furman finishing as the media’s favorite. VMI quarterback Reece Udinski was named the preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Citadel linebacker Willie Eubanks III was the preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
 
The Citadel, Mercer, Chattanooga and Western Carolina each played at least one nonconference game in the fall, while the other five SoCon programs elected to wait until the spring. League play begins Saturday, Feb. 20, with four conference contests. The teams are all scheduled to play full eight-game SoCon slates, which will wrap up April 17. The first round of the FCS playoffs will begin April 24.
