SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Amoria Neal-Tysor has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Jan. 12-18 after averaging 27.5 points and leading the Bears to a pair of conference wins on the road. The award is selected by the league office.

Neal-Tysor, a junior, began the week with a game-high 25 points, three rebounds and three steals in a 53-43 win at UNCG on Jan. 14. The native of Sanford, North Carolina, shot 55.6 percent from the field (10-of-18) in 34 minutes of play. Two days later, the guard scored a game-high 30 points, adding a pair of rebounds, two steals and an assist in the Bears’ 73-58 win over the Spartans. Neal-Tysor finished 13-of-18 from the floor (72.2 percent) and 4-of-7 from 3-point range (57.1 percent).  

For the week, Neal-Tysor shot 63.9 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. The 20-point performances were the fifth and sixth of the season for Neal-Tysor, who leads the league in scoring with 17.9 points per game, and the 30-point performance was her league-leading second of the season.  

After three straight road games to open conference play, Mercer (8-4, 2-1 SoCon) returns to the confines of Hawkins Arena for the next four conference contests, beginning with games against Furman (5-7, 1-2 SoCon) on Jan. 21 and Jan. 23.
