Samford's Ramil named SoCon Player of the Week

Junior scored career-high 28 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds in win

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Annie Ramil has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Jan. 5-11 after scoring a career-high 28 points and grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds in a win over Mercer on Jan. 9 in the league opener for both squads. The award is selected by the league office.

Ramil, a junior transfer from Binghamton, shot 64.7 percent from the field, finishing 11-for-17 from the floor in the 78-69 win over the Bears, the coaches’ preseason pick to win the league and the team atop the standings at 6-3 entering league play. The forward from Binghamton, New York, also went 2-for-2 from 3-point range and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. Her 28 points and 15 rebounds were both game highs, while the 28 points were the third-most scored by a league player this season and the 15 rebounds tie for fourth-most amongst league players this season.

Samford (4-6, 1-0 SoCon) hits the road for the next four conference contests, beginning with games at Western Carolina on Jan. 14 and Jan. 16.

Also nominated: Jaron Dougherty (Mercer), Cece Crudup (UNCG), Eboni Williams (Chattanooga), Zanoria Cruz (Western Carolina) and Niyah Lutz (Wofford).
