NEW ORLEANS – Three Southern Conference student-athletes earned All-America honors for the indoor track and field season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Tuesday.
 
Furman’s Ryan Adams and Gabbi Jennings and Wofford’s Hannah Steelman were among those honored.
 
Due to the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, the NCAA Division I Track & Field Executive Committee elected to honor all individuals on the start list for each event.
 
Adams, who hails from Hudson, Ohio, earned the honor in both the mile and the 3,000-meter run after qualifying for the NCAA Championship in the two events. He ranked eighth nationally with a time of 3:57.62 in the mile, a Furman school record which he posted at the Camel City Invitational. Adams entered the national meet ranked 12th in the 3,000m after posting a time of 7:49.45, also a school record, at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge. At the 2020 SoCon Indoor Track & Field Championships, he took first place in the 800-meter run and competed on the gold medal-winning Paladin distance medley relay team.
 
Adams, the 2019 SoCon Cross Country Runner of the Year, was also honored as a cross country All-American after placing 32nd at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
 
A native of Slidell, Louisiana, Jennings was named an All-American in the mile. She qualified nationally in seventh place after establishing a new Paladin record with a time of 4:34.74 at the Camel City Invitational. Jennings, who won titles in both the 800m and the mile at the 2020 SoCon Indoor Track & Field Championships, was named a cross country All-American after placing 20th at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
 
Adams becomes Furman’s first indoor All-American on the men’s side since Kim Piersol in the long jump in 1968, while Jennings is the first on the women’s side since Allie Buchalski earned the honor in both the 3,000m and 5,000-meter run in 2017.
 
Steelman, a junior from Orono, Maine, earned the All-America citation in the 3,000-meter run, for which she qualified 16th with a time of 9:07.19. This year’s meet would have marked her sixth time competing in an NCAA Championship, as she ran in the 2018 and 2019 Cross Country Championships, 2018 and 2019 Outdoor Championships and 2019 Indoor Championships.
