Two baseball players named Academic All-District

ETSU's Noah Hill and VMI's Jon Clines honored

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the baseball academic all-district teams on Thursday afternoon. The 2020 Academic All-District® Baseball Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Among those honored were ETSU’s Noah Hill and VMI’s Jon Clines. Both players were selected as members of the District III team (NC, TN, VA). 

Hill, a physical education major, excelled in the classroom with a 3.77 cumulative GPA for his career at ETSU and Cleveland State Community College. Hill was a named to the 2019 Southern Conference honor roll and was also a 2018 Academic All-American.

Competitively, Hill has recorded 65 hits, 40 runs, 33 RBIs, 10 doubles, five triples and three homeruns during his time with the Bucs. Last year he finished with ETSU's longest hit streak of the season (12) and longest reached base streak of the season (24).
 
Clines, an economics and business major, posted a 3.79 cumulative GPA over the course of his career in the classroom. He is a three-time selection to the Southern Conference honor and received the 2017-18 Commissioners Medal for achieving a GPA 3.8 or higher during the entire academic year.

After beginning his collegiate career as a pitcher, Clines blossomed into one of the Keydet’s best hitters after transitioning to a utility role in 2019. As a junior he posted an impressive .340 batting average with 32 hits, 12 runs and 11 RBIs with five doubles and three homeruns. For his career, Clines has recorded 46 hits, 27 RBIs and 17 runs while also picking up three wins on the mound over 31.1 innings pitched.

Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-11.
