Manheim, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association announced the 2019-2020 Scholar All-American Team and Individual honorees for NCAA Division I on Thursday, with six Southern Conference individuals and two teams honored.
In order to qualify for the individual honor, each wrestler must meet a minimum threshold requiring a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, an overall winning percentage of at least 60 percent during the 2019-20 season and participation in at least 60 percent of the team's schedule.
Gardner-Webb was the highest team on the list in fourth nationally with a team GPA of 3.422, while the Runnin’ Bulldogs were represented by 165-pounder RJ Mosley as a Scholar All-American. The Citadel was the other team recognized, with the Bulldogs placing 11
th with a team GPA of 3.2962.
Appalachian State led the league with four individual honorees. Sean Carter (125), Matt Zovistoski (157), Will Formato (165) and Thomas Flitz (174) were the Mountaineers earning recognition, with Zovistoski earning the award for the third time.
Chattanooga’s Tanner Smith (149) was the final SoCon wrestler named a Scholar All-American.
