BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Samford junior second baseman Brooks Carlson was rated as the nation's fourth-best second baseman in a ranking released recently by D1Baseball.com.
The list ranked the top 30 second basemen at NCAA Division I schools. The website is ranking each position based on the shortened four-week season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through the 15 games played, Carlson led the Southern Conference and ranked second in the nation with a .500 batting average. He also led the SoCon in hits (25), on-base percentage (.644) and walks (20).
Samford had gotten off to a hot start with a 13-2 record before the season was shut down. In 2019, Samford won the SoCon regular-season title, and the 2018 Bulldogs won the SoCon Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
