UNCG's Caleb Webster and ETSU's Landon Knack honored

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG third baseman Caleb Webster and ETSU right-hander Landon Knack have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games March 2-8. The selections are made by the league office.

Webster was an offensive force for the Spartans over five games and four wins last week. The senior from Randleman, North Carolina, posted a .400 batting average with eight hits, eight RBIs, six runs, two doubles and a triple during the week. Webster opened the week by with three hits and two RBIs in a midweek tilt at North Carolina on March 3. He then recorded a hit in all but one game of UNCG’s four-game series sweep against Maryland Eastern Shore. After getting one hit in Friday’s series opener, Webster went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, a double and a triple in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. Knack continued to dominate opposing hitters in his lone start during the week. The senior from Johnson City, Tennessee, set a program record with 16 strikeouts in a win over Wagner on March 7. Knack allowed just five hits over six innings of work, with his 16 punchouts accounting for all but two of the 18 outs he recorded. The right-hander also showed tremendous accuracy with no walks and 73 of his 98 pitches being called strikes. After recorded double-digit strikeouts just once last season, Knack has reached the mark in all three of his starts this year and has a 1.08 ERA, 51 strikeouts, three earned runs and just one walk over 25 innings this season.
