SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Kylie Toler and UNC Greensboro’s Morgan Scott have been named the Southern Conference softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for games played Feb. 24-March 1, the conference office announced Monday.
 
Toler hit .500 (3-for-6) with a grand slam, six RBIs and a run scored as ETSU went 2-0 on the week with a 10-1 win over Tennessee Tech and a 4-3 win over No. 20 Tennessee, both on March 1, as part of the Buccaneer Classic. The native of Bradenton, Florida, went 2-for-3 against the Golden Eagles, singling through the left side in the bottom of the second and smacking a grand slam over the left-field fence in the fifth inning, pushing ETSU’s 3-1 lead to 7-1. The four RBIs are a single-game career high for the senior. Later that afternoon against No. 20 Tennessee, the catcher added a double down the right-field line in the bottom of the first inning, plating two runs and pushing the Bucs’ early lead to 3-0. The win snapped a 19-game skid against the Vols and ended Tennessee’s streak of 100 straight victories against in-state opponents.
 
Scott, a freshman, picked up a pair of victories as UNCG went 4-1 in the Spartan Classic over the weekend. On Saturday, the native of Irmo, South Carolina, pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out 11 while issuing just one walk and allowing three hits in a 1-0 win over Oakland. The next day against Dayton, Scott entered the circle in the top of the seventh with one out and the score knotted at 2. She struck out a batter and got the next to pop out, retiring the side before the Spartans rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh en route to the 5-2 win. Scott got the start later that afternoon against Appalachian State and struck out 13 batters, giving up just four hits and allowing just two runs, both earned, in a complete-game 2-1 loss to Mountaineers.
