SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford outfielder Hudson Byorick and Mercer right-hander Josh Farmer have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games March 9-11. The selections are made by the league office.
Byorick led the Terriers offensively in Wednesday’s 4-3 win over No. 14 Auburn with a 2-for-3 outing at the plate. The senior from Auburn, Washington, singled in the first inning and scored a run, walked and scored a run in the third inning and closed the game with a single in the sixth. Byorick also added a pair of walks to help the Terriers to their first win over a ranked opponent since 2012.
The weekly award is the third of Byorick’s career.
Farmer was lights out in his lone appearance during the week, a non-conference win over Georgia State last Wednesday. The redshirt sophomore from Bogart, Georgia, picked up the victory after tossing five no-hit innings in his start against the Panthers. Farmer recorded two strikeouts while walking just two of the batters he faced.
The weekly award is the first of Farmer’s career.
Also nominated for player of the week: Jake Madole (ETSU), Le Bassett (Mercer) and Greg Hardison (UNCG).
Also nominated for pitcher of the week: Josh Vitus (Wofford).
