SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State’s Jonathan Millner has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Jan. 29 to Feb. 4. The selection is made by the league office.
Millner picked up a victory over 24
th-ranked Tanner Smith of Chattanooga on Feb. 2 in his lone match of the week. The Greensboro, North Carolina, native jumped out to an early lead and held a 3-2 advantage after the first period. Millner pushed his lead to 5-2 entering the third period before securing the 6-3 decision, his second victory over Smith this season. Millner led the Mountaineers to a 27-12 victory over the Mocs, with both teams entering the dual with a 3-0 league record. The win pushed Millner’s overall record to 25-4 and 4-0 in SoCon matches. He was ranked 18
th in the initial NCAA coaches’ panel rankings.
The weekly award is the second of Millner’s career, with both coming this season.
The Mountaineers will look to add to their perfect SoCon record on Feb. 8 when they travel to face The Citadel at 5 p.m.
