SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Julia Adams has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Jan. 28 to Feb. 3, the conference office announced Tuesday. Adams, a sophomore, went 2-0 in both singles and doubles.
This week, Furman (5-3) downed Lipscomb and Louisville, both by 6-1 scores.
In singles, Adams played in the top spot against Lipscomb, picking up a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Kate Popova. The next day, she downed Louisville’s Rhea Verma, 6-4, 6-2 at flight two.
In doubles play, Julia Adams and her partner Katarina Kozarov went 2-0 at flight one. The pair, ranked 30th, earned a 6-4 win over Lipscomb’s top duo and led 1-0 at Louisville before the Cardinals’ pair retired.
Furman returns home for the next three matches, hosting Middle Tennessee on Friday, Feb. 2, and Marshall and Emmanuel on Sunday, Feb. 9.
Also nominated: Erika Barquero (UNCG), Rouxanne Janse van Rensburg (Samford), Jessie Young (Chattanooga) and Jordan Strickland (Western Carolina).
