JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — The ETSU women’s tennis team did not have to wait long to face their second straight opponent on campus. The squad took down USC Upstate 6-1 at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon, recording back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

The Bucs locked in the doubles point with two quick victories at the No. 1 and 3 doubles fights. Yunuen Elizarraras and Michelle de Haan at the three blanked Illanes and Armani to secure the first win. Laylo Bakhodirova and Alejandra Morales secured the point with a 6-1 win at the top spot. Andrea Pascual-Larrrinaga and Marija Carvajal rounded out doubles play with a 7-6 win at the middle bout.

In singles action, five of the six Bucs recorded victories in straight sets without losing more than three games in a set. Bakhodirova at the top flight defeated her opponent in consecutive 6-2 sets while Morales did the same at the No. 2 spot with 6-3 scores. 

On the middle court, Carvajal won her first complete singles match of her career. Her past victory had her opponent retire. Pascual-Larrinaga and Elizarraras both recorded 6-1 and 6-0 set victories at the three and five spots respectively.

With the win, ETSU improves to 5-4 on the season and return to action this Friday hosting Charlotte.
