SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Emma Van Hee has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 18-24, the conference office announced Tuesday.
 
Van Hee, a junior, went 2-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles as Chattanooga beat UT Martin (6-1) and fell to Middle Tennessee (4-1) and Tennessee (4-1).
 
In singles, the native of Tournai, Belgium, won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles in the match against Middle Tennessee before downing her opponent from UT Martin 6-1, 6-2 the next day. Her match against Tennessee went unfinished. Van Hee is now 7-1 in singles matches this spring
 
In doubles play, Van Hee and her partner Caroline Gibbens played in the top flight and defeated Tennessee’s top duo, ranked eighth nationally, 6-4. The pair fell 6-4 at Middle Tennessee but rebounded for a 6-2 win over UT Martin.
 
Chattanooga begins Southern Conference play on Friday, Feb. 28, at No. 37 Furman and plays at Presbyterian the next day in a nonconference contest.
 
Also nominated: Madison Dillon (Furman), Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg (Samford) and Georgia Fischer (Wofford).
