SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Olivier Stuart has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 18-24, the conference announced Tuesday. The senior won both his singles matches on the week and went 1-0 in doubles as Mercer fell to Stetson and Georgia State.
In singles, Stuart won both of his matches in straight sets. He played in the top spot in both matches and defeated Stetson’s top player 7-5, 6-2 and Georgia State’s top player 6-1, 7-6.
In doubles action, Stuart and teammate Hugo Lobo defeated Stetson’s top duo 6-4. The pair’s match against Georgia State’s Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds, ranked 58th nationally, went unfinished.
Mercer (3-7) plays at Georgia this afternoon and hosts North Florida on Friday, Feb. 28.
Also nominated: Zvonko Bencedic (The Citadel), Dmitri Badra (ETSU), Clarke Wilson (Furman), Niklas Gerdes (Chattanooga) and Diego Losada (Wofford).
