Three on CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

Dimitrijevic, Steger and Murphy advance to Academic All-America ballot

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Three Southern Conference student-athletes were selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Men’s Basketball Teams, the organization announced Thursday.
 
Western Carolina’s Onno Steger was named to the District 3 team, while Mercer’s Djordje Dimitrijevic and Wofford’s Storm Murphy earned spots on the District 4 team. All three now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.
 
Steger completed his undergraduate requirements in December, graduating as a double major in finance as well as innovation leadership and entrepreneurship with a 3.56 GPA. He is currently enrolled in WCU's business administration graduate program.
 
On the court, the Upper Arlington, Ohio, native has started each of WCU's 26 games this season and is averaging 12.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Against The Citadel on Jan. 4, Steger made a career-high eight 3-pointers as he scored a game-high 28 points in an 86-82 victory. He leads the SoCon in 3-point field-goal percentage at 43.0 percent and is ninth in 3-point field goals made per game at 2.5.
 
Dimitrijevic has been putting up career numbers this season for the Bears. He leads the team in scoring with an average of 17.3 points per game. The senior from Grdelica, Serbia, has also posted career highs in field-goal percentage (43.5), 3-point percentage (38.4), total assists (95) and rebounds (104).
 
On Jan. 11, Dimitrijevic scored a career-high 34 points at Western Carolina. He hit a career-best six 3-pointers in back-to-back games Jan. 15 (VMI) and Jan. 18 (at Samford).
 
Murphy, a junior point guard, has started 89 of 95 games played while at Wofford, including 27 this season. The Middleton, Wisconsin, native is currently tied for seventh place all-time at Wofford with 336 career assists, dishing out 89 so far this season. Each year, Murphy has seen his points-per-game total increase, averaging 12.1 this season while shooting 48.2 percent from the floor and 42.1 percent from 3-point range.
 
As a freshman, Murphy was named to the 2017-18 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll as well as the Southern Conference All-Freshman team. Last season, Murphy was the recipient of the Southern Conference Pinnacle Award, presented to the player on the championship-winning team with the highest grade point average. He is majoring in finance.
