WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two Southern Conference men’s lacrosse student-athletes were among the 50 players on the initial watch list for the 2020 Tewaaraton Award, given annually to the top male and female college lacrosse players in the United States, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Thursday evening.

Junior attackmen Asher Nolting of High Point and Ryan Lanchbury of Richmond are on the first watch list of the season.

Nolting was selected to the Tewaaraton watch list for the third year in a row, becoming the second Panther in school history to be selected to the list three times (Dan Lomas). Nolting, Lomas and Tim Troutner Jr. have all been on the Tewaaraton watch list in High Point history.

The two-time defending SoCon Offensive Player of the Year, Nolting earned preseason All-America honors from the USILA/Warrior and New Balance (first team) and Inside Lacrosse (second team).

Having twice set SoCon records for points in a season, Nolting is the SoCon’s active leader in career points (164) and assists (87) and is second in league history in both categories. Also with 77 goals to his credit (eighth in SoCon history), Nolting is the runaway leader in points per game at 5.12 for his career, well ahead of second-place Chris Walsch of Air Force (3.56 from 2016-17).

Lanchbury becomes the fourth Spider in the seven-year history of the Richmond men’s lacrosse program to be named to the watch list. He joins the likes of former Spiders Teddy Hatfield (2019), Benny Pugh (2017) and Mitch Goldberg (2016).

Lanchbury, the Spiders’ single-season record holder in shots, points and goals, opened the 2020 season last weekend with a four-point effort against No. 4 Maryland. He scored a goal and handed out three assists as the Spiders moved into the national rankings at No. 19 this season. Only a junior, he already ranks fifth all-time in Richmond career scoring history with 119 points and is fourth all-time with 81 career goals.

Lanchbury had a season for the record books, setting the Richmond single-season scoring record with 72 points and 52 goals. His 52 goals also set the SoCon single-season goal scoring record. He finished seventh in the nation in goals and 20th in the country in points. He earned first-team All-SoCon honors last season and was named honorable mention All-America for his record-setting season.
