VMI cruises past Greensboro College, 100-65

Myles Lewis notches double-double for Keydets

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's basketball team used hot shooting to breeze to a 100-65 victory Tuesday against Greensboro College in a nonconference game from Cameron Hall.
 
The Keydets jumped out quickly on a Greensboro team that defeated Division I Longwood University 67-64 on Sunday in a contest that was an exhibition for the Pride. The Keydets opened 8-0 and 14-2 leads in the early going, hitting their first seven shots from the floor, including five 3-pointers. Kamdyn Curfman and Sean Conway each hit a pair of treys before VMI misfired from the field for the first time more than five minutes into the contest.
 
VMI closed the half ahead 55-28, hitting 10-of-18 3s and 18-of-29 shots (62 percent) from the floor. The Keydets had 17 assists on 18 made baskets in the first 20 minutes. VMI pushed the lead to 31 at the 15:47 mark and led by 30 or more the rest of the way.
 
Senior Myles Lewis scored a season-high 17 points with a game-best 10 rebounds and four assists. He hit 6-of-8 from the field and all four of his free throws. Curfman was 4-of-6 from distance and finished with 14 points while Conway contributed 12 points and five boards. Trey Bonham delivered 11 points, four rebounds and three assists and Greg Parham had nine points and five helpers. Jake Stephens hit three 3-pointers for nine points and Tanner Mans compiled eight points and six rebounds.
 
VMI shot 55 percent (33-for-60) from the floor for the game and held a 46-30 rebounding edge. Lewis had a double-double for the second straight game and grabbed double-digit rebounds in his third straight outing. The last time the Keydets reached triple figures was Nov. 20, 2018, against 106-80 Kentucky Christian.
 
Matthew Brown led Greensboro (0-3) with 14 points and three steals while Kevon Meertins had nine points and three steals. Carlos Machuca scored eight and Keyshawn Dorsey and Greyson Collins each contributed seven.
 
VMI (3-2) opens Southern Conference play Thursday at home against undefeated Mercer University (5-0) at 7 p.m.
