SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Myron Gordon has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for all contests from Dec. 1-7 after posting a double-double in leading the Bulldogs past Belmont. The award is selected by the league office.
Gordon scored 23 points and pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds on Saturday as Samford handed Belmont just its 11th home loss since the 2010-11 season, taking a 96-83 win in Nashville, Tennessee. The Bruins entered the contest ranked No. 5 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 and had gone 126-10 at home over the last 10 seasons, with their last home loss to a nonconference opponent coming on Nov. 27, 2017.
Gordon, a redshirt senior from Bordentown, New Jersey, playing in just his second official game since the 2018-19 season, went 7-for-13 from the floor (.538), including hitting two of his four 3-point attempts. He was 7-for-9 from the free-throw line on the day and added three assists.
Samford (2-1), which received a vote in the latest mid-major poll after its win over the Bruins, visits Georgia on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
