SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Eboni Williams has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Dec. 15-21 after nearly averaging a double-double and helping Chattanooga to a 3-1 record on the week. The award is selected by the league office.
Williams, a junior, led the Mocs in scoring in three of the four contests on the week. She began the week with a team-high 14 points and added six rebounds, three assists, four blocks and two steals in the Mocs’ 65-64 win at Austin Peay on Dec. 15. Three days later in the Mocs’ lone loss of a week, a 62-45 setback against Eastern Kentucky, the native of Hoover, Alabama, led the team in both scoring and rebounding, netting 14 points and pulling down a game-high nine rebounds.
On Sunday, Williams, a forward, scored 20 points and snagged a team-high eight rebounds, shooting 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from the field and adding four assists in a 96-86 win over Georgia Southern in the GSU Holiday Classic, hosted by Georgia State. Williams concluded the week by exploding for a game-high 30 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, earning her first double-double of the season in a 73-70 overtime win at Georgia State that helped the Mocs claim the GSU Holiday Classic title on Monday evening. She shot 64.7 percent (11-for-17) from the floor, was 2-for-2 from beyond the 3-point line and finished 6-for-8 from the free-throw line, adding an assist, a block and steal in 36 minutes of play.
Chattanooga (4-4) is off until Dec. 29, when the Mocs take on North Alabama in Florence, Alabama, in the final nonconference contest for coach Katie Burrow’s squad. The Mocs open SoCon play on Jan. 9, hosting ETSU in McKenzie Arena.
