SoConSports.com will provide weekly notes of former SoCon players throughout the NFL season
Younghoe Koo (Georgia Southern), Andre Roberts (The Citadel) and James Bradberry (Samford) were all named to the NFL’s 2021 Pro Bowl rosters on Monday evening. Koo and Roberts both were named starters, while Bradberry was a reserve.
Before earning a spot on the 2021 NFC Pro Bowl roster, Koo set the franchise record for the most field goals in a single season (35) Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, going 2-for-2 on field goals and 3-for-3 on point after attempts. His 52-yard field goal in the fourth quarter was the record-breaker, and he continues to lead the NFL in total points (133). Koo hasn’t missed a field goal since Week 3, which is his only miss of the 2020 season.
Roberts earned his third straight Pro Bowl roster spot after a dominating season as the Bills’ kick returner. The former Citadel Bulldog is currently tied for the league lead with an average of 29.4 yards per kickoff return and holds the second-most kickoff return yards (912). During Week 15, Roberts returned three kickoffs for 102 yards and three punts for seven yards in the Bills’ 48-19 win over the Broncos, good to clinch the first-place spot in the AFC East division. This is the Bills’ first AFC East title since 1995.
So far this season, the New York Giants’ Bradberry (Samford) has 47 tackles, including 39 solo stops, with 17 breakups and two forced fumbles. He also has a team-high three interceptions during the 2020 season. For his five-year NFL career, Bradberry, who did not play in Week 15, has intercepted 11 passes. He also has 317 career tackles, including 252 solo stops. He has defended 64 passes, forced four fumbles and recovered one fumble in his professional career.
The Broncos’ Sam Martin (Appalachian State) punted six times averaging 48.5 yards in Denver’s 48-19 loss to Buffalo. Martin and the Broncos take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16.
Matt Breida (Georgia Southern) carried the ball 12 times for 86 yards during the Dolphins’ 22-12 win over the New England Patriots. His longest carry on the game was good for 24 yards and a Miami first down.
Former Western Carolina cornerback Keion Crossen continues to see increased time on the field, making two solo tackles and four assists during the Texans’ loss to their AFC rival Colts.
