SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Shauntai Battle has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Nov. 25-30 after averaging 20 points and shooting 51.6 percent in road games at SEC foes Alabama and Auburn. The award is selected by the league office.

Battle, a guard/forward, began her senior campaign by scoring 21 points, dishing out three assists and pulling down a pair of rebounds in an 83-68 loss at Alabama in the season opener on Nov. 25. She shot 42.1 percent from the floor, including 57.1 percent from 3-point range, and played all 40 minutes. Three days later, the native of Mobile, Alabama, netted 19 points and added four rebounds and an assist, shooting 66.7 percent from the field on 8-of-12 shooting and again playing all 40 minutes in a narrow 66-64 loss at Auburn.  

For the week, she shot 51.6 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.

Samford (0-2) remains on the road for its lone contest of the week, taking on No. 13 Indiana in Bloomington, Indiana, on Thursday, Dec. 3.

Also nominated: Jakhyia Davis (ETSU), Amoria Neal-Tysor (Mercer), Tembre Moates (Western Carolina) and Niyah Lutz (Wofford).
