SoCon Goes Pro: NFL Week 8

SoConSports.com will provide weekly notes of former SoCon players throughout the NFL season

Former Georgia Southern kicker Younghoe Koo is having a standout season with the Atlanta Falcons. In Week 8, Koo went 4-for-4 on field goals and 1-for-2 for point after attempts in Atlanta’s 25-17 win over the Carolina Panthers. He totaled 13 points during the Thursday Night Football showdown and is tied for the third-most total points in the NFL this season (71). Koo also leads the NFL in field goals made, going 19-for-20 on the season through Week 8.

James Bradberry (Samford) has the second-most passes defended in the NFL with a total of 12 through Week 8. Bradberry and the New York Giants played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday night, with Bradberry recording two solo tackles, one assist and a pass defended in New York’s 25-23 loss. The former Samford cornerback broke up a pass as he covered Tampa Bay wide receiver Mike Evans near the sideline.

The jets are back on for Georgia Southern’s Jerick McKinnon. McKinnon ended the 49ers’ second scoring drive with a 1-yard touchdown run, which was his first score since Week 4. McKinnon found a hole and ran into the endzone during the fourth quarter of the 49ers’ 37-27 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Buster Skrine (Chattanooga) made a season-high seven total tackles last week and pushed that momentum into Week 8, when he made four solo tackles and forced a fumble in the Bears’ 26-23 overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Appalachian State’s Sam Martin punted six times averaging 54.2 yards as the Broncos beat the Los Angeles Chargers, 31-30.
