Notes:
• Western Carolina heads to the Ohio Valley Conference’s Eastern Kentucky on Saturday for the inaugural Opportunity Bowl. The game is dedicated to the late Dr. Sheila Davidson Pressley, a 1989 Western Carolina graduate and the former Dean of Health Sciences at EKU who also served as the Faculty Athletics Representative.

• The Catamounts opened their fall slate on Nov. 14 at FBS No. 22 Liberty, falling 58-14. Quarterback Will Jones hit Clayton Bardall for a 9-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter to make it a 14-7 contest and QB Mark Wright, who earned the starting nod, added a 3-yard TD run late in the third quarter.

• Wright, a junior college transfer in his first season at Western Carolina, went 11-for-17 for 66 yards through the air and carried the ball 10 times for 12 yards and a score.

• Senior running back Donnavan Spencer had 103 all-purpose yards, as he rushed for a team-best 79 yards and had 24 yards receiving.

• Senior linebacker Ty Harris had a game-high 11 tackles, including five solo stops and a sack. Junior cornerback Jacob Harris had nine tackles. Junior transfer linebacker Willie Hampton forced a fumble that was recovered by redshirt freshman Dorian Davis.

• Eastern Kentucky leads the series with Western Carolina 3-2, but the Catamounts won the last meeting 24-7 in 2009. This year’s meeting will be the third straight between the schools in Richmond, Kentucky.

• The Colonels are 2-6 on the season with a 37-14 win at The Citadel on Sept. 26 and a 31-28 win over No. 11 Central Arkansas on Oct. 24.

• EKU played UCA again its last time out, falling 37-25 on Nov. 14. The Colonels rallied from a 24-0 deficit to take a 25-24 lead after three quarters, but the Bears scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to salvage the season split.

• EKU quarterback Parker McKinney is third in the FCS with 226.3 passing yards per game and 251.3 yards of total offense per game and fourth in total passing yards (1,358) and points responsible for (72). Running back Alonzo Booth is second in the FCS with 530 rushing yards.

• Two of Western Carolina’s three fall opponents have appeared in the national rankings this season. Liberty is up one spot in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 to No. 21, while North Carolina re-entered the coaches’ poll at No. 24 this week but has reached as high as high as No. 5 this fall.

• Western Carolina’s game at North Carolina has been moved up six days to Dec. 5 due to adjustments the Atlantic Coast Conference made Monday to its league schedule.

• Wofford alum Miles Brown was signed to the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad last week. Brown played in nine regular-season games with Arizona last season.
