SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced spring league schedules for volleyball, women’s soccer and men’s soccer on Thursday.
League schools may also schedule nonconference contests in any of those three sports at their discretion.
Volleyball conference play gets underway on Feb. 4 when rivals Furman and Wofford square off in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in the lone match of the day. The remaining seven teams begin their conference campaigns on Feb. 7. The nine league teams will all play double-round-robin, 16-game intraleague schedules with contests slated for Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays. The regular season concludes on March 29 with three matches. The Southern Conference Championship semifinals will be held on April 2 with the title match held a day later, all at the site of the No. 1 seed. Samford is the defending regular-season and tournament champion.
Women’s soccer league play begins on March 5 with all 10 teams in action. League teams will all play each other once for a nine-game conference slate. SoCon games will be contested on Fridays and Sundays until the regular season concludes on April 4. The Southern Conference semifinals, hosted by the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, are slated for April 9 or 10 with the SoCon Championship final scheduled for April 16 or 17 at the home of the highest remaining seed. Furman and Samford both claimed a share of the SoCon regular-season title last year, while the Bulldogs, who have won at least a share of the regular-season crown in six straight seasons, also earned the tournament title.
Men’s soccer SoCon action begins on March 13 for all but VMI, which kicks off on March 16, and concludes on April 3 before the semifinal matches, hosted by the top two seeds, take place on April 9-10. The SoCon Championship final will be hosted by the highest remaining seed April on 16 or 17. In total, the league’s seven men’s soccer teams will play 21 matches, held on Tuesdays and Saturdays, over the four-week period. Furman and UNCG shared the SoCon regular-season title last season, while Mercer won the tournament crown for the third time in four years.
