SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its 2020-21 women’s basketball league schedule Tuesday afternoon. The SoCon’s eight women’s basketball teams will all play double-round-robin, 14-game intraleague schedules, totaling 56 league contests. Conference play begins on Jan. 7 with four teams – Mercer, UNCG, Samford and Western Carolina – in action. The remaining four teams kick off their conference campaigns on Jan. 9.
Due to coronavirus concerns, schools have been given the latitude to change game dates with the approval of both programs’ directors of athletics and the conference office.
In total, 28 conference games take place in January and 28 contests in February. All conference matchups are set for Thursday and Saturday. The regular season concludes with four conference showdowns on Feb. 27.
The Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championship presented by General Shale will be held March 4-7 at Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina.
UNCG, Samford and Chattanooga shared the regular-season title in 2019-20 and top seed Samford was crowned the tournament champion after downing No. 3 UNCG 59-54. The Bulldogs and Spartans will rematch in just the second conference matchup, squaring off in Birmingham, Alabama, on Jan. 9.
Full broadcast schedules will be announced later, but all eight schools’ home games will air on either ESPN3 or ESPN+ if not selected for national or regional broadcast.
The 37th season of Southern Conference basketball opens Wednesday, Nov. 25.
