SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference wrapped up its 2020 fall meetings last week. The two-day event included virtual meetings of the league’s athletic directors, senior woman administrators and faculty athletic representatives, as well as Southern Conference staff.
 
Among the business conducted: The ADs spent considerable time discussing schedules for fall sports in the spring, as well as contingency plans for basketball scheduling and the league’s basketball tournaments. The group also discussed COVID game management policies and the SoCon’s strategic plan.
 
The league’s baseball teams, which will play three-game series over two days this season as part of the league’s cost-cutting measures, will now be able to choose which day of the series includes the doubleheader and can play either Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday, with those decisions to be declared by the Wednesday prior to each series.
 
The men’s soccer conference schedule was also altered, with league games being contested on Saturdays beginning in fall 2021. The league’s seven men’s soccer squads had been playing a Tuesday/Saturday schedule for conference contests.
 
In addition, several sports’ championship hosting rotations were assigned.
 
With fall sports competing in the spring this academic year, the league’s Awards Committee voted for the league to administer one Academic All-Southern Conference team for the year rather than fall and spring teams.
