SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Campbell’s Josh Heil has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Dec. 24 to Jan. 7. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Heil had another strong outing at the Midlands Championships in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, posting a 5-1 record as he finished second. The Brunswick, Ohio, native opened with a pin of Nathan Swartz of Northern Illinois and followed with a 13-4 major decision over Marshall Keller of Princeton. Heil worked a pair of decisions over Carter Happel of Iowa and Salvatore Profaci of American to advance to the semifinals. He defeated eighth-ranked Tristan Moran of Wisconsin 4-2 for his 16th straight victory and fifth win against a ranked opponent before falling to seventh-ranked Max Murin of Iowa 5-3 in the final. Heil is just the second wrestler in school history to advance to the finals of the prestigious event and was named the SoCon Wrestler of the Month for December. The redshirt senior boasts an overall record of 20-2 for the season and has been ranked as high as No. 8 at 141 pounds.
 
The weekly award is the second of Heil’s career and this season.
 
The Camels will return to action on Jan. 11 when they travel to Phoenix, Arizona, to face off with Arizona State, Harvard and Iowa State.
 
Also nominated: Jonathan Millner (Appalachian State), Matthew Waddell (Chattanooga) and Neal Richards (VMI).
