NEW ORLEANS – 11 Southern Conference cross country teams and four student-athletes were honored Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with All-Academic honors, the organization announced.
Five SoCon men’s teams and six women’s teams earned the All-Academic Team distinction, which requires at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. ETSU, Furman, Samford, Chattanooga and Wofford earned the honor for both its men’s and women’s programs, while UNC Greensboro saw its women’s team honored. Samford's men had the highest GPA among Division I programs, while the Wofford women had the 23rd-best.
ETSU junior Ben Varghese and Furman seniors Ryan Adams, Savannah Carnahan and Emma Grace Hurley were All-Academic Individuals. To earn that honor, student-athletes must carry at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top 25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships.
