SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman men’s indoor track and field runner Ryan Adams has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Jan. 22-28. The selection is made by the league office. 
 
Adams posted a time of 7:49.45 in the 3000m race on Jan. 25 at the Dr. Sander Invitational/Columbia Challenge at the Armory Track in New York City. The senior from Hudson, Ohio, finished second by just .34 seconds in an elite field consisting of nine professional runners and three collegiate athletes. Adams’ time set a new school record, beating the previous time of 8:00.07, set by Troy Reeder in 2017, by just over 10 seconds. With his time, Adams now leads the nation in the event this season.
 
Adams is a Spanish major and currently holds a 3.30 grade point average.
 
The Paladins compete next at the Carolina Challenge from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1 in Columbia, South Carolina.
 
Also nominated: Noah Charles (ETSU men’s indoor track and field) and Makenzie Jones (Chattanooga women’s indoor track and field).
