WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –? UNCG track and field teams recorded some top marks in the distance races this Sunday, competing in the JDL January College Kick-off, the squads’ third meet at the JDL Fast Track this indoor season.
 
The Spartans started the one-day meet in the 4x800-meter relay before competing individually in the men's and women's 3000-meter run. Ariana Garcia crossed the finish line in fourth with her time of 10:35.88, while Alex Roy and Thomas Knepshield each recorded personal bests over on the men's side, turning in respective times of 8:45.30 and 8:52.74.
 
Freshman Michael Zapherson finished with a pace of 4:28.36 in the men's mile while claiming a runner-up finish, despite competing in the event for the first time in his collegiate career. His adjusted time of 4:25.73 would currently sit ninth among the marks registered in the Southern Conference this indoor season.
 
After a week's break from competition, the Spartans return to JDL Fast Track for the Mondo College Invitational on Feb. 2.
