OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Mercer senior Ethan Stair is one of 30 NCAA men’s basketball student-athletes who excel on and off the court to be selected as candidates for the 2019-20 Senior CLASS award.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates can be seen
here.
An acronym for
Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Stair, who is currently working on his master of education in higher education leadership, has recorded seven double-doubles during his senior year. He is averaging 15.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. He scored a career-high 28 points on Nov. 19 at Georgia Southern.
Not only has he succeeded on the court during his senior year, but he has also been active in the community. Over his time at Mercer, Stair has served as a team leader and coach mentoring school-age student-athlete at Mercer Summer Basketball Camps. This past September, he participated in the NABC Stay in to Win Presentation at Appling Middle School.
The men’s candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select the best candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2020 NCAA Men’s Final Four
® this spring. For more information on each of the candidates, visit
