CHICAGO – Eight Southern Conference student-athletes earned spots on the STATS FCS Preseason All-America teams, with ETSU defensive lineman Nasir Player claiming a spot on the first-team defense.
Player, the SoCon Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, was joined by ETSU teammates Tyree Robinson and Quay Holmes in earning predictive honors from STATS. Robinson, a defensive back, was a second-team pick, while Holmes, who finished third in voting for the STATS Jerry Rice Award last season, was a third-team pick at running back.
Furman had a pair of second-team selections in linebacker Adrian Hope and place kicker Grayson Atkins. Hope, who led FCS with 1.5 sacks per game, finished fourth in the Rice Award voting last season.
Chattanooga wide receiver Bryce Nunnelly and Wofford offensive lineman Justus Basinger were also second-team picks, while Western Carolina quarterback Tyrie Adams was a third-team selection. Adams, who last season became just the 11th player in FCS history to rush for at least 1,000 yards and throw for at least 2,000, is the SoCon Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
