SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford outfielder Mike Brown and Samford right-hander Jesse McCord have been named SoCon Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for the month of May. The selections are made by the league office.

Brown paced the Terriers offensively in the month of May, hitting .371 with 26 hits, 14 RBIs, four doubles and two triples. With an .438 on-base percentage, the senior recorded at least one hit in 11 of 16 games played. Slugging .486, the Pflugerville, Texas, native went 26-for-70 from the plate, scoring 14 runs and recording two or more hits in nine games. Brown helped the Terriers reach the SoCon tournament championship games, driving in three runs off eight hits and scoring six of the runs that helped the Terriers be in contention for the 2019 championship title. He led the team in both hits and batting average on the month.

The Terriers ended their 2019 season with a 36-25, 14-9 SoCon record, reaching the conference tournament final but ultimately dropping both games to Mercer.

McCord was instrumental in helping the Bulldogs secure the SoCon regular season title and securing the No. 1 seed for the tournament. He went 3-0 with a 1.53 ERA in three appearances over the month of May. His best performance of the month came early in the tournament when he pitched 7.0 shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six. For the month, the Spanish Fort, Alabama, native recorded 18 strikeouts while only allowing three walks over 17.2 innings of work.

The Bulldogs ended their 2019 season with a 41-19, 19-5 SoCon record, falling to Mercer in the semifinal game of the conference tournament.
