SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford outfielder Hudson Byorick and Furman’s right-handed pitcher David Dunlavey have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games April 22-28. The selections were made by the league office.
Starting all four games for the Terriers this past week, Byorick went 9-for-17 including a double and a pair of RBIs. Against the University of North Carolina at Asheville on Tuesday, the junior recorded three hits, including a double and a pair of RBIs. In the conference weekend series against Samford on Saturday, he recorded three hits including an RBI double.
He led the team in batting average (.529), hits (9) and RBIs (5) on the week. This is the outfielder's second player of the week honors this season.
The Bulldogs (26-19, 8-6 SoCon) welcome Winthrop University (24-16) on Wednesday for a midweek matchup before traveling down to Charleston for a conference matchup with The Citadel (10-32, 3-12 SoCon).
Also nominated: Ches Goodman (The Citadel), Garrett Wilkinson (Mercer), Max Pinto (Samford), Zack Budzik (UNCG), Ryan Smoot (VMI) and Justice Bigbie (Western Carolina).
The Paladins Dunlavey pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout to lead Furman to a 3-0 victory over Kansas on Saturday. The redshirt-junior carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before giving up a two-out single. He walked one and struck out nine on the outing. The two hits Dunlavey held the Jayhawks to were the fewest registered by Kansas this year.
Next up for the Paladins (18-26, 7-8 SoCon) is a weekend conference matchup with the VMI Keydets (12-32, 7-11 SoCon) at home in Greenville, South Carolina.
