SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Bellarmine attack Ian Miller and High Point goalkeeper Tim Troutner Jr. have been named the Southern Conference men’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition March 26 to April 1. The awards are selected by the league office.
Bellarmine’s Miller set a school record with five assists in the Knights’ 16-13 win over Mercer on Saturday, their first of the season. The senior from Hoschton, Georgia, also added a pair of goals for a game-high seven-point day and put all three of his shots on the day on frame. His goals came in the first and second quarters and pulled Bellarmine within a goal of the Mercer lead each time. He would assist on the eventual game-winner in the fourth quarter. Miller’s five assists tied for seventh in a game in SoCon history.
Bellarmine (1-8, 1-2 SoCon) hosts VMI (4-4, 0-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
High Point’s Troutner earned his third weekly honor of the season and the fifth of his career. The senior from Annapolis, Maryland, made 14 saves and allowed 10 goals as the Panthers downed Furman 17-10 on Saturday. Troutner, who faced 37 shots on the afternoon, posted a .583 save percentage. He also collected five ground balls and caused two turnovers in improving to 8-2 in the cage this season. Troutner is now within two wins of the SoCon’s career record and needs eight saves to become the first keeper in league history with 600 for his career.
High Point (8-2, 2-1), ranked 15th in the USILA poll, 14th in the Inside Lacrosse poll and 18th in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine poll, welcomes league-leading Air Force (7-3, 3-0) for a SoCon contest Saturday at noon.
