SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Raquel Amaro has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 26-March 4, the conference office announced Tuesday. Amaro, a freshman, went 2-0 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles action during the week.

In singles, Amaro picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Cincinnati’s No. 4 Maria Santilli on March 1. The next day, she won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 against Rachael Reichenbach of Xavier, again in the No. 4 spot. The win moved Amaro, a native of Caracas, Venezuela, to 9-3 on the season.

In doubles play, Amaro and her partner, Yi Chi Ma, earned a 6-1 win over Cincinnati’s duo at flight No. 2 before falling to the pair from Xavier the following day. 

ETSU (5-7) returns to the court on March 16 at VCU before beginning conference play at Wofford on March 21.
