SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jacksonville’s Jack Dolan and Air Force’s Brandon Jones have been named the Southern Conference men’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Feb. 26 to March 4. The awards are selected by the league office.
JU’s Dolan totaled eight points in the Dolphins’ first win of the season, a 19-12 triumph over Drexel on Saturday. The sophomore midfielder from Columbus, Ohio, scored four goals and notched four assists for the third-most points in a game in program history and fourth-most in SoCon history. Dolan, who recorded just three points all of last season, recorded career highs in goals, assists and points on the day. He took just six shots on the afternoon, converting for a .667 shot percentage. He also scooped up a ground ball and had two caused turnovers without committing any of his own.
Jacksonville (1-4) returns to action this weekend for a pair of neutral-site games in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Dolphins will face No. 1 Towson on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and No. 6 Penn State on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
Air Force’s Jones had seven ground balls and caused one turnover in the Falcons’ 13-7 win over Canisius on Saturday, anchoring a defense that surrendered just two goals in the second half and only seven total on the day. The senior from Upper Arlington, Ohio, leads Air Force with 28 ground balls and seven caused turnovers this season and is the program’s career leader with 62 caused turnovers.
Air Force (3-2) hosts Detroit Mercy on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Eastern.
