SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Frazier Rengifo has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 19-25, the conference announced Tuesday. The honor is Rengifo’s fourth of the season, making him the first player in Southern Conference history to garner four weekly awards in the same season.

In singles action, the native of Cali, Colombia, downed Furman’s Ivan Mitric 6-4, 6-1 in the top spot on March 22. Mitric entered the match ranked No. 120 nationally. Two days later, Rengifo, playing at No. 1, earned his sixth straight-set victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Samford’s Rossouw Norval. The pair of wins moved Rengifo to 4-0 in SoCon play.

In doubles play, the sophomore and partner Yusuf Khamis defeated Furman’s Jake Bhangdia and Clarke Wilson 6-4 at No. 2. Against Samford, the pair played at No. 1 and fell 4-6 to Sami Kirberg and Jack Lyttle.

Rengifo and the Bucs return to the courts later in the week, playing at Charlotte on Friday, March 29, and at Chattanooga in a conference contest on Sunday, March 31.

Also nominated: Gavin Stewart (The Citadel), Ollie Palmer (UNCG) and Edu Villar (Wofford).
