SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Noah Charles and Ben Johnson have been named the Southern Conference men’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Selections were made by a panel of the league’s track and field coaches.

Charles won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Friday. The junior from Johnson City, Tennessee, stopped the clock in 9:06.20, edging the runner-up by 0.31 seconds. Charles’ time is tops in the SoCon on the young season and ninth on the NCAA Division I performance list.

Johnson took second place in the javelin at the 49er Classic on Friday and eighth in the shot put on Saturday. The redshirt senior from Nashville, Tennessee, hurled the javelin 64.19 meters (210 feet, 7 inches), a mark that leads the SoCon by 12.55 meters and ranks 19th on the NCAA Division I performance list. Johnson threw the shot put 15.20 meters (49 feet, 10 1/2 inches), which also leads the SoCon this season.
