SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s outfielder Immanuel Wilder and Wofford’s left-hander Hayes Heinecke have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games March 4- 10. The selections are made by the league office. This is Heinecke’s second time being honored this year.

Starting all three games for the Catamounts in the outfield this past week, Wilder hit .556 from the plate with 5 RBI’s and two doubles against B1G Ten opponents Michigan State and Ohio State to help Western Carolina earn a 3-0 overall record. He added two walks for an on-base percentage of .636 and his two-RBI double on Sunday against Ohio State, helped cap a five-run seventh inning that proved to be a difference maker for the Catamounts to take down the Buckeyes.

Western Carolina (8-5) looks to take on Notre Dame on Wednesday before heading back to Cullowhee, North Carolina, to take on Elon in a Friday afternoon match-up.

Also nominated: J.D. Davis (The Citadel), Cullen Smith (ETSU), Brooks Carlson (Samford), Kel Johnson (Mercer), Andrew Orzel (Wofford) and Ryan Caveness (UNCG).

Wofford’s Hayes went seven innings against Gardner-Webb on Saturday. He recorded a career-high ten strikeouts in the outing and allowed only three hits and one walk. The freshman held opponents to a .125 batting average.

The Terriers (10-6) turn their attention towards Ohio State as they are set to take on the Buckeyes Tuesday afternoon in Spartanburg, South Carolina. They then will welcome the Bryant University Bulldogs for a Wednesday afternoon matchup at 5:00 p.m.
