SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Furman swept USC Upstate, 7-0, in women's tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Paladins won at flights two and three doubles to take the opening point. Freshman Taylor Melvilleand sophomore Carol Elizabeth Kerman blanked Elin Hellberg and Victoria Saldh, 6-0, at number two, and sophomore Georgie Walker and rookie Julia Adams posted a 6-1 victory over Noelia Acuna and Ana Boza at flight three.  The flight one match was unfinished.

Furman won five out of six singles matches in straight sets. Senior Katty Weymouth moved into the number one singles spot and held off Saldh, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2), and freshman Julia Adams defeated Acuna, 6-1, 6-0, at flight two. At number three, Melville topped Maria Jardim, 6-2, 6-4, while rookie Madison Dillon recorded a 6-2, 6-0 advantage versus Vale Zarama at flight four.  Walker bested Boza, 6-4, 6-2, at flight six, and Kerman topped Hellberg, 6-1, 6-4, at number six. 

Furman (5-1) continues its road swing Friday when the Paladins travel to Coastal Carolina for a 10 a.m. match-up in Conway.
