SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford men's basketball head coach Mike Young was named a late-season candidate for the 2019 Werner Ladder Naismith Men's College Coach of the Year on Wednesday.
Young, who is in his 17th year at the helm of the program, has guided the Terriers to a 24-4 overall record, going 16-0 in Southern Conference play in the 2018-19 season. On Monday, Wofford was ranked No. 24 in the AP Top 25 Poll, marking the program's first AP Top 25 ranking in its history. The Terriers are one of only two teams remaining (No. 1 Gonzaga) to remain unbeaten in conference play and currently hold the second-longest win streak (15) behind Gonzaga (19).
Young has amassed a record of 293-243 while going 173-124 in Southern Conference play in his 17 seasons. Young has guided Wofford to four Southern Conference championships, the last coming in 2014-15 when the Terriers were edged out by Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Young is the active leader for wins at a SoCon school and has been named SoCon Coach of the Year three times in the last decade (2009-10, 2013-14, 2014-15).
