Chattanooga's Edwards named player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Delaney Edwards has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 19-26, the conference office announced Tuesday. Edwards, a senior, went 3-0 in singles play in the No. 4 spot and 2-1 in doubles at the top flight. Overall, Chattanooga is 7-2 on the season and has won six matches in a row, the Mocs’ longest win streak since 2016.

In singles action, Edwards started the week with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Carson-Newman’s Alisa Liashova on Feb. 19. On Feb. 24, she downed USC Upstate’s Vale Zarama 6-0, 6-2 before beating UT Martin’s Andrea Plantada 6-2, 6-2 the next day.

In doubles play, Edwards and teammate Emma Van Hee fell in their first match of the week but rebounded to win 6-0 and 7-5, respectively, against USC Upstate and UT Martin.

Chattanooga travels to the University of Tennessee for a showdown on Saturday, March 2, at 4 p.m.
