SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Frazier Rengifo has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 19-25, the conference announced Tuesday. Rengifo is 8-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while ETSU sits at 6-3 on the season and 2-0 in SoCon play. ETSU kicked off the conference slate this week with back-to-back sweeps of UNCG and Wofford on Feb. 22 and Feb. 24, respectively.
In singles play, the native of Cali, Colombia, defeated UNCG’s Nico Grewe, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, in the top singles position. On Sunday, Rengifo, again playing at No. 1, downed Wofford’s Julian Chousa in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to put the Bucs ahead 5-0 en route to the 7-0 win.
In doubles action, Rengifo and teammate Sergi Fontcuberta won 6-2 over the UNCG duo of Roger Rogowski and Ian Melnik at No. 2. At Wofford, Rengifo and partner Yusuf Khamis picked up a 6-3 win over Bryce Keim and Omar Williams to cap off a perfect week for the sophomore.
ETSU hosts the University of Louisiana on Saturday, March 2.
