Samford's Guerrero named academic all-district

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford senior center Ruben Guerrero has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District first team, released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday morning.

To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.3 grade-point average and be a starter or regular contributor to the team. The members of the all-district first team are now eligible for the Academic All-America team, which will be announced at a later date.

Guerrero has a 3.64 GPA in economics and finance at Samford. He transferred to Samford in 2017 from South Florida, and he was named to the Southern Conference’s Academic Honor Roll following the 2017-18 academic year.

This season, Guerrero is leading the team in rebounding, grabbing 8.3 boards per contest. He also leads the squad and the SoCon in blocked shots per game (2.2 pg.), and he ranks second on the team in scoring (13.9 ppg.).

Guerrero and the Bulldogs will play on the road twice this week. The team plays at Mercer on Thursday at 6 p.m. (CT), and then plays at The Citadel on Saturday at 12 p.m. (CT).
