SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Katty Weymouth has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 12-18, the conference office announced Tuesday. Weymouth, a senior, went 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles action on the week. She is the third Furman player to win the weekly award this season.

Weymouth started the week with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Marshall’s Victoria Walter on Feb. 15 in the No. 2 spot. The Paladins swept the match against the Thundering Herd. The next day, the native of London, England, fought back to defeat Penn State’s Olivia Rohrbacher 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 2. Furman upset Penn State, 4-3, marking the Paladins’ first win over a Power 5 team since the 2008 season and extending Furman’s winning streak to six matches. 

In doubles play, Weymouth and teammate Madison Dillon beat Marshall’s Madi Ballow and Liz Stefancic, 6-2, and Penn State’s Frederikke Svarre and Chelsea Sawyer, 7-5, to give Furman the doubles point.

Furman (9-1) continues its road swing next weekend when the Paladins travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to face Middle Tennessee State on Saturday, Feb. 23.
