SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Ivan Mitric has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 12-18, the conference announced Tuesday. Mitric is 6-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Furman sits at 6-3 on the season. The Paladins defeated The Citadel and Davidson on the road, both by a 6-1 score.

In singles play, the sophomore from Toronto, Ontario, kicked off SoCon play with a 6-4, 7-5 win against The Citadel’s Roy Hobson on Feb. 16 at flight No. 1. The next day, Mitric, ranked No. 117 nationally, earned another win in the top spot, this time downing Davidson’s Axel Fries 6-2, 7-6.

In doubles action, Mitric and his partner, Jake Munns, went 2-0 at No. 1. The duo defeated The Citadel’s Willem van Zyl and Gavin Stewart, 6-2, to move to 1-0 in conference play before defeating Davidson’s Fries and Yash Parikh, 6-3, the following day. 

Furman hosts Appalachian State on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Also nominated: Frazier Rengifo (ETSU), Nico Grewe (UNCG), Sami Kirberg (Samford) and Kerim Hyatt (Chattanooga).
