SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU catcher Jackson Greer and The Citadel right-hander Shane Connolly have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games Feb. 15-17. The selections are made by the league office.
In ETSU’s season-opening series against Iona, Greer hit .417, going 5-for-12 from the plate with two home runs and his first career triple, resulting in nine RBIs as the Bucs began the season 3-0. Greer served as the catcher for the whole series, gunning down the only two stolen-base attempts in the three games. The junior was batting cleanup for the first time in his career in game one and in the three hole for the first time ever in games two and three of the series.
As a sophomore, Greer started 38 games at catcher, batting .235 with nine home runs and 26 RBIs.
ETSU (3-0) will face Virginia Tech (3-0) on the road on Tuesday before traveling to Wagner for a three-game tilt with the Eagles this weekend.

The Citadel’s Connolly pitched a complete-game shutout on Saturday for the Bulldogs, marking the first complete-game shutout for a Bulldog pitcher since JP Sears tossed a two-hit shutout against VMI on March 24, 2017. The sophomore only needed 90 pitches to toss a three-hit shutout against Delaware State, allowing only two hits in the first three innings and not allowing another hit until a bunt single in the eighth inning.
As a freshman, Connolly pitched 7 1/3 innings in nine appearances for the Bulldogs.
The Citadel (2-1) will welcome the Michigan Wolverines (3-0) this weekend for three game series beginning on Friday at 5 p.m.
