Mercer's Stuart named player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Olivier Stuart has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for matches played Feb. 5-11, the conference announced Tuesday. Stuart earned two wins at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles on the week.

 

In singles play, the junior from Bussy Saint-Georges, France, won his singles match against North Florida on Feb. 8, downing Till Von Winning 6-2, 6-2 in flight one. The following day, Stuart fought back from a first-set loss to beat Buffalo’s Vilhelm Fridell by a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.  

In doubles action, Stuart and his partner, Nicolas Guillon, went 2-0 in the No. 1 spot. Against North Florida, the duo downed Vonn Winning and Nilo Duarte 6-4 before defeating Buffalo’s Fridell and Simon Wibler, 7-6, a day later. 

 

Stuart and the Bears return to the court on Feb. 23 at South Florida.  

Also nominated: Ivan Mitric (Furman), Hugh Knapp (UNCG), Pablo Llebeili (Chattanooga) and Edu Villar (Wofford).
